I love to dance.
I studied many forms growing up from ballet to folk, it’s in my blood. My pirouettes might be a bit off and my grand jetes a bit low (and let’s not talk about that turnout),
still I love to move
Here are my top nine places in DC to go and break a leg!
#9: Eden – Only been here once but it is a beautiful spot and the DJs are always on point. Sunday nights are of the Caribbean Flavor.
#8: Habana Village – One of the first dance spots I was taken to upon arriving in the DMV. Lively, crowded with free Salsa lessons to help speed your skills on the dance floor. Pros mixed in with beginners, always a fun night to dance and watch others move the floor.
7: Tropicalia – Another go to spot! This place always have live music, a big dance area and amazing artwork. One of the places that always have something going on. Do check out the Okayafrica DC Series with DJ Underdog which is hosted here.
#6: Velvet Lounge – It’s a small space with two levels but always an amazing crowd and awesome music.
#5: U Street Music Hall – Never had a bad experience yet. Always have amazing shows and music by up and coming DJs. Ended up creating a dance!
#4: Marvin’s – Monday nights! Awesome music, spinning by DJ Jahsonic, nice crowd and a heated rooftop deck….what is there not to love?
#3: The Rock & Roll Hotel – Huge after party dance club after live shows. Tons of fun! Crowed? yes but the music is always great so viva l’dance!
#2: Cloak & Dagger – Maybe it’s the name, maybe it’s the fact that it is created and owned by dancers, but this is my spot. The music is always on point and the vibe is so chilled and fun that people who can dance and those who dance to their own beat can get down together and have fun.
#1: Eighteenth Street Lounge – I. LOVE. Eighteenth Street Lounge (ESL). It’s my default place to party, introduce visitors to, it’s just…an experience you must have. Every night is usually good, but Wednesdays is the Reggae night with a live band, and the weekend night grooves are worth going to work Monday morning half asleep.
If you have never checked out these places, please do. You won’t regret it!
